Join us and Beautiful Creatures at 1pm on Saturday 23rd March, 2024 for an afternoon celebrating the heritage and culture of Oxford Road.
Come along to meet a striking 4-metre-tall puppet designed and created by local residents. Plus, enjoy a medley of performances from local artists, take part in craft activities and join the parade yourself!
Beautiful Creatures Theatre is a professional arts organisation based in Reading who work nationally creating small and large scale physical and visual theatre performances. They are currently working with Reading Borough Council to deliver one of the final projects for the Reading high Street Heritage Action Zone programme.
The High Street Heritage Action Zone Programme has been running for the past four years funded by Historic England unearthing and celebrating Oxford Road in Reading. This project specifically focuses on the town end of Oxford Road between Broad Street and Reading West Bridge.
As part of their project, they have been working with and up-skilling local residents to design and create a mid-scale puppet, plus a celebratory performance that aims to both bring people from the local community together and celebrate the heritage and culture of Oxford Road.
Lookout for the striking 4-metre-tall puppet that will be making walkabout performances along Oxford Road through March.
On Saturday 23rd March, Broad Street Mall will be hosting the unmissable finale. This will be complete with a variety of performances from local groups, all of which will be inspired by people and their stories from Oxford Road.
We’re excited to be supporting this community event and hope to see you all there!
