Celebrate the Hindu Festival of Lights, Diwali, on Saturday 4th November 11am-5pm at Broad Street Mall.
In partnership with the regions professional South Asian dance and music organisation, Kala The Arts, the day will be filled with traditional, classical and contemporary Indian performances and workshops.
PERFORMANCES
There will be spectacular Indian dancing and Dhol drumming performances throughout the day.
ART WORKSHOPS
You will have the opportunity to take part in FREE traditional art workshops including;
Diya lamps – small clay pots, painted in bright colours and filled with oil to be lit during Diwali, symbolising prosperity in the new year.
Rangoli – colourful patterns displayed on the floor using a mix of materials including rice.
DANCE WORKSHOPS
Kala The Arts will also host dancing workshops on the day which will include;
- Odissi, a stunning temple dance which expresses creative and spiritual stories
- Kathak, one of the main genres of ancient Indian classical dance
- Bollywood, one of the most energetic and colourful Indian dance form
HENNA
You can also enjoy getting a FREE beautiful Henna hand decoration, which is synonymous with celebrations such as Diwali.
There is no need to book for this event, so visitors can just turn up. All activities are completely free.
