Windrush Black History Exhibition This October at Broad Street Mall

Broad Street Mall is proud to welcome the Windrush Black History Exhibition, this October during Black History Month.

The Exhibition will celebrate the history, heritage and stories connected to the Windrush generation.

Celebrating the Windrush Generation

The exhibition commemorates the arrival of the Empire Windrush at Tilbury Docks in 1948, an important moment in British history.

Passengers travelled from across the Caribbean, including Barbados, Jamaica, Grenada, Saint Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago, alongside passengers from many other countries, including Poland. Their stories form an important part of the diverse communities that have helped shape Britain today.

A Flag Procession Through Reading

The event will begin on Monday 5th October at 1pm with a flag procession from the nearby Windrush Roundabout. Previously, Windrush Roundabout was known as the Chatham Street Roundabout, which is situated at the intersection of the Inner Distribution Road (IDR) and Chatham Street in Reading town centre.

After the procession, the flags will fill Broad Street Mall, creating a vibrant celebration of the countries and communities represented by the Windrush generation.
